Prophet Abraham Richard Bisaso took his position at the pulpit and taught:
There is a price to follow Christ.
Luke 9:57-62. As they were walking along the road, a man said to him, ‘I will follow you wherever you go.’ Jesus replied, ‘Foxes have dens and birds have nests, but the Son of Man has nowhere to lay his head’ (NIV)
Many of us think that following Jesus is all about waking up in the morning and following Him. No! What is your motive in following Him? Let us take this man as our first case study. His motive of following Jesus was in pursuit of physical materials. This is a wrong motive.
Look at the one who Christ asked to follow Him in Verse60 “Jesus said to him, ‘Let the dead burry their own dead, but you go and proclaim the kingdom of God.’ This second gentleman is a true representation of many servants. They want to serve, however, they are not willing to lay down their lives for the sake of Christ. Meaning, they are still not willing to let go of the world and their families.
Now look at Verse 61 the Prophet clarified. 61 ‘Still another said, ‘I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say goodbye to my family.‘
Look what Jesus said to him: 62 Jesus replied, ‘No one who puts a hand to the plough and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.‘
Unfortunately, just like this third gentleman, many servants of God today are under this predicament of looking back. It is a pity when men of God go back to the world. I ask myself in my heart, “Do we really believe?”
If so, then we are ashaming what we have ever believed. And it is a clear sign that we do not fear God. Did you know that we fear darkness more than God? We are too confused to notice that if the devil runs away from Christ then He –Christ must be so fearful.
It is a shame if a servant cannot lay down his/her life for Christ. This is proof that you are not fit to be His disciple. Some of us think it is all about us yet it is all about Christ. It pains when disciples waste their lives chasing worldly gains and fail to serve.
Because once you step in Jesus’ courts, you must not step back; rather just focus only on Him. It is blaspheming the Heaven when you shout Jesus is power but when a situation comes, you confess negatively. This God is a mystery; do not play cards with Him for you do not know your tomorrow. It is only He who knows it.
When Christ calls you, He changes you. He gives you a new identity that is greatly feared. Mark 10:29-30, says that if we lay down our lives for Him, He will give it back to us well shaken and multiplied. Meaning, whatever we lost for His name’s sake; shall be given back to us in exceeding measures.
God is not begging you to serve Him. He is only bringing you on board to save your soul. Mind you, there are many who are willing to serve and to do what is right. For the record, it is not those that run fast that are victors; even those that take small steps are winners too.
Remember, God has the 7000 that has not yet served. Thus, He is not willing to chase after you; instead He will just let you go. Believers, there is a price, if we need to be servants and disciples of Christ Jesus.
Prayer: Lord Christ Jesus, help me to know you more than people say.
